In May of 1990, the citizens of Terrell voted a $.005 cent increase in sales tax to fund economic development. December of 1990 saw the first deposits to the fund that generates approximately $550,000 per year for construction of roads, water and sewer lines, grants and low interest loans. The key factors in the expenditure of funds are new jobs created and total project investments. The sales tax deposits have continued to grow each year with the 2014 revenues expected to top $2 million.
During the past several years, Terrell has seen the addition of 3,673 new jobs created, 30 new industries, 11 expansions of existing companies and 3 existing buildings purchased along with $421 million added to the tax roles.
